My name is Alissa Fleck, I’m an investigative journalist who has reported on social, criminal and financial justice for nearly a decade, and been published in over 25 outlets. I hold a second master’s degree, in criminal investigation, from John Jay (CUNY). I’ve also been featured on podcasts, and produced one season of my own podcast, “Is This Illegal?”

In addition to my reporting, I have volunteered at the Brooklyn Family Justice Center in New York, and the Mitchellville Penitentiary Maximum Security Prison for Women and Newton Correctional Facilities in Iowa.

Crime Scoop is a way for me to update the public on crime that flies under the radar, and that impacts already marginalized communities, in a meaningful, humanizing and nuanced way. I share reports on a number of stories I’m currently investigating, as well as other cases that I think deserve attention.

All work on Crime Scoop is done pro bono and never for-profit.

This blog is a tool for promoting justice and dignity for the victims and survivors of crime, and their families. Importantly, this space is about centering the victims and survivors at the heart of every story, not just seeking the most sensational angles. This blog is unafraid to examine institutions, including media, and power structures that reinforce the conditions in which such crime pervades.

While I hold all work on this blog to the highest fact-checking standards, all statements on Crime Scoop should be considered personal opinions unless otherwise stated. I hope you will use this platform as a starting point and always do your own follow-up research.
